Eliza (2015)

Eliza is an illustrated children's book I created for my senior studio class in 2015.

The idea behind the book was to target both young girls and their family members about the topic of dieting. Studies show that young girls are heavily influenced by the dieting habits of others, meaning that family members should take care when discussing dieting around young girls.

The story follows Eliza as she and her mother and sister move to Florida, a sunshine state where showing more skin is the norm. Eliza's sister begins to show signs of dieting and body consciousness, leading Eliza to copy her older sister. In the end, Eliza and her sister have a dialogue about dieting and the reader is encouraged to engage in a dialogue with the young girls in their life.
